NOT A CANDIDATE FOR LASER SURGERY?
REFRACTIVE LENS EXCHANGE (RLE)
High myopia and/or astigmatism and you were not a candidate for LASER surgery, well RLE may be the solution. As technology advances, surgery becomes safer, faster and more precise; exchanging your crystalline lens for an intraocular lens (IOL) may have a very satisfyng outcome. This is a common surgery performed in young patients within 25-40 years old that have very high myopia or astigmatism unable to reduce them by laser surgery. Monofocal or Toric lenses are usually implanted in this cases.
Presbyopia patients (40-60 years old) that are looking for maximum independece in near vision glasses are a very common reason for an appointment with the ophthalmologist. Multifocal or Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) lenses are often implanted in these kind of cases.
RLE utilizes a similar surgical technique as cataract surgery to improve vision without glasses.

IMPLANTABLE CONTACT LENSES (ICL)
Either your cornea structure is weak or your prescription too high, not being a candidate for LASER surgery may not be the end of the road. ICL can provide vision correction without removing the natural crystalline lens inside of the eye or altering your outer corneal structure as intended in LASER surgery.
ICL improves vision similar to a contact lens and surgical implantation is very simple and often lasts under 10 minutes. Once implanted does not requires maintenance and it’s removable if any changes in prescription may happen, or other vision requirements are needed.
