FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can a cataract grow back?

Once removed it’s not possible to grow back. However some patients can develop a condition called Posterior capsule opacity (PCO), which means the capsular bag supporting the intraocular lens opacifies. PCO can be easily treated with no need to re-enter OR as it is an office laser procedure called YAG.

This happens in a small percentage of patients and not necessarily inmediate. Newer and better intraocular lenses have smaller rates of PCO.

2. Do intraocular lens (IOL) need to be exchanged at any time?

Intraocular lenses should last your entire lifetime as they dont “wear out”. They also don’t move or rub any intraocular tissue, as IOL’s are inside of the “capsular bag” which was the outer layer of the cataract.

3. Are surgeries done with top technology?

YES. In Cataract Mexico we perform surgeries with top tech. Surgeons need a great quality surgical microscope and phacoemulsification machine that can backup surgeons to perform surgery with safety and efficiency.

Check our locations and ask your doctor about them.

4.- I had laser surgery previously done, does this means IOL can’t be implanted?

No. Every patient has a different eye biometrics and different ocular history but IOL can be implanted safely. Some IOL’s may not be suitable for some patients, so your doctor needs to evaluate your case and options.

5.- Is Mexico safe to travel as a medical tourism destiny?

Mexico has many safety issues, but tourist destinies are kept safe. Our locations are thought so you may experience peace and pleasure as you recover from a minimally invasive procedure. These locations also have large communities of americans and canadians living their retirement.
